Float Pool RN, Intensive Care Unit

Location: Elizabethtown, Kentucky Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Float scope: ICU, Telemetry, Med/Surg, and PCU. Nurses must be comfortable moving across these units and caring for patients of varying acuity. Shift: 3x12 hours, 7p-7a, weekend and holiday rotation Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week Contract length: 13 weeks

Responsibilities

• Perform and document comprehensive patient assessments, develop problem lists, and create individualized plans of care with the patient and family.
• Administer patient care therapies and procedures, and educate patients and families.
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition and communicate them appropriately.
• Delegate and oversee team members' patient care activities.
• Execute discharge orders in a timely manner and coordinate discharge planning with Case Management.
• Perform hourly patient rounding and bedside shift report.
• Communicate with physicians and other departments, and manage time across multiple units.
• Follow infection-control protocols and patient privacy and confidentiality requirements.
• Participate in unit quality improvement activities, such as patient satisfaction, falls, pressure injuries, CAUTI prevention, and documentation audits.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kentucky
• Critical Care Float experience of at least 1 year, with Critical Care Float experience within the last year
• ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
• Telemetry experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

• Clear verbal and written communication, and active listening.
• Collaboration with the care team.
• Ability to assess age-specific patient safety issues and implement appropriate safety devices.
• Understanding of computer systems and applications, or ability to be trained.

Physical Requirements and Exposures

• Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling over 35 lbs, frequent walking, repetitive motion and bending, and color discrimination for clinical cues.
• Regular exposure to blood, body fluids, sharps, and airborne infectious diseases.
