Medsurg RN

Location: Dodge City, Kansas Contract Length: 13 weeks (possible extension) Shift: Nights, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• ACLS (AHA) and BLS (AHA) certifications
• Entry-level nursing experience for acute care
• Good patient communication skills and a people-oriented approach
• Must be within a 60-mile radius of the facility
• Driver's license (DL) must be submitted

Unit Details

• Unit: Med/Surg
• Beds: 32
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
• Nurse aide ratio: 1:12
• Common diagnoses: Congestive heart failure, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, GI bleeding, acute renal failure, diabetes, wounds/wound vacs, cellulitis, joint replacements, surgical patients, sepsis, and strokes
• Common titratable or set-rate drips: Analgesics for pain, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, TPN, and lipids
• RNs required to titrate drips: No
• Telemetry: Telemetry technician on unit 24/7
• Charge nurse takes an assignment: Yes
• RT equipment: CPAP, BiPap, heated high-flow

Scheduling

• Scheduling options: Self-scheduling and block scheduling
• Weekend requirement: Minimum of six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday requirement: Yes
• Call or standby: To be determined

Floating

• May be asked to float to any other acuity level, including ICU (low-acuity holds only, with appropriate skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele
• May be utilized as a CNA only if needed
• May float within Zone 4 if needed

Orientation

• Date and location assigned during orientation week
• Clinicians must be in state for orientation week, even if first-day modules are remote
• No scrub color code
