Respiratory Therapist Evenings/Nights/Rotating

Location: Centreville, Illinois Employment Type: Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Hours: 40 per week

Shift

• Evenings 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and/or night shift 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. (may be a combination of both)
• Weekend and holiday coverage required

Job Summary

Provides quality respiratory care using professional judgment and standard cardiopulmonary principles to promote and maintain health for patients of all ages, in accordance with physician orders.

Duties

• Interview and examine patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders
• Consult with physicians to develop patient treatment plans
• Perform diagnostic tests, such as measuring lung capacity
• Treat patients using methods including chest physiotherapy and aerosol medications
• Monitor and record patient progress
• Teach patients how to take medications and use equipment, such as ventilators
• Assist in training and precepting new hires
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Care
• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in Illinois
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 0 years of experience
• Registered Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Skills and Abilities

• Critical thinking and problem solving
• Administering oxygen and cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Managing mechanical ventilators
• Administering drugs to the lungs
• Monitoring cardiopulmonary systems and measuring lung function
• Interpersonal skills, including interacting with patients and working as part of a team

Physical Demands

• Medium work: exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, up to 20 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs constantly
• Requires climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, repetitive hand and wrist motions, pushing, and full use of arms and back
• Close visual acuity for analyzing data, viewing computer monitors, and inspecting small parts
