Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Fishersville, Virginia Employment type: Travel/Contract Contract length: 13-26 weeks (traveler chooses) Shift: Night, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:00), 36 hours/week Ratio: 1:6

Unit

• 2 West - Medical Innovation Unit (Rooms 221-248): 32-bed medical/surgical unit focused on new technologies and innovative nursing practice. Staff are early adopters of new technology, equipment, and nursing practice models. Hercules beds are used on this unit.

Schedule and Rotation

• PM shift every other weekend (EOW).
• Holiday rotation: staff must work one summer and one winter holiday.
• Self-scheduling groups rotate every scheduling period (weekly).
• Return-to-office (RTO) holiday policy: with one holiday in the assignment, work it; with two, work one; with three, work two.
• The position will have to float at times to cover staffing needs.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Med Surg experience (2 years)
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Unit-Specific Certifications (Required for Listed Units)

• ACLS: ED, ICU, PCU, CPU, OR, OB/L&D, Cath Lab, Cath Lab Tech, Endo, Anesthesia, and PACU
• PALS: Pediatrics, ED, and PACU
• NRP: OB, LDRP, NICU, and Nursery
• NIH Stroke Certification: ICU, PCU, ED, and Float Pool (updated annually)
• CPI: Required for Psych; highly recommended for ED. MAB is acceptable in lieu of CPI for behavioral health.
• TNCC: Listed as a certification; no required units stated

Preferred

• Lab and other allied roles: BLS preferred (not applicable to RN role)

Experience and Eligibility

• First-time travelers accepted.
• Does not accept local candidates (local radius rule: 50 miles).
• Does not accept pending licenses.

Onboarding

• Facility-specific policies, forms, and acknowledgments must be completed before start.
• First day: drug screen at Employee Health, followed by orientation. First shift is on Tuesday.
• Medical or religious exemptions are reviewed case by case; exemption requests need supporting documentation and should be submitted two weeks before start.
