Retail Pharmacist

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Retail Pharmacy Manager, the Retail Pharmacist is responsible for all areas of retail pharmaceutical services, including procurement, distribution, storage, and administration of drugs by appropriate staff. The pharmacist ensures pharmacy services comply with all state and federal regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Pharmacist license in California
• Pharmacist with 3 years of experience
• Pharmacist experience within the last year
• Current BLS certification
• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree from a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education

Key Responsibilities

• Compound and dispense prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care
• Review prescriptions from physicians or other authorized prescribers for accuracy, formulas, and ingredients
• Direct pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals
• Answer questions and counsel customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage when counseling is accepted
• Maintain pharmacist-to-technician and pharmacist-to-intern ratios per state and federal law
• Instruct interns and other pharmacy personnel
• Maintain awareness of third-party Rx systems and promptly resolve third-party rejections
• Report prescription errors immediately and follow company policy on medication incidents
• Maintain procedures for quality assurance, controlled substance security, and hazardous waste drug disposal
• Enter and maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory data
• Develop and maintain working relationships with physicians and other healthcare professionals
• Engage patients and clients with customer service and program offerings, and manage difficult customer situations
• Keep current on new items, changing laws, regulations, and pharmacy-related programs
• Other duties may be assigned, which may include technician-related duties depending on staffing
