Location: Oakland, California Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Day, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week Schedule: Every other weekend; on call as needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience (2 years of experience), with Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS

Preferred Qualifications

• EKG experience

Floating

• May float to other units within scope of practice.
• Depending on need and census, may float to another campus.
• Travelers should expect about 1.5 hours' notice before shift start in most cases.
• A shuttle is provided when floating is requested.

Role Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates nursing care in an acute care setting, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care.
• Collaborates with physicians and the healthcare team to adjust and coordinate daily care plans.
• Provides ongoing education to patients and families, documents responses to care, and reports safety or compliance concerns.
• Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to newly hired staff and may orient other nursing and patient care support staff.

Pre-Start Requirements

• Seven-year background check, including sex offender search, education verification, and federal and state exclusion database checks, with some items updated annually or monthly.
• Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification, both within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually, plus negative TB test or chest X-ray.
• Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B immunity documentation, and Tdap within 10 years.
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or documentation during flu season.
• In-person color vision exam.
• Respirator fit test within 1 year, renewed annually.
• Two professional references for acute care candidates.
• Employment application and work history verification covering the last 7 years, with no unexplained gaps over 30 days.
• Unit-specific skills checklist.
• Required facility orientation, policy, and confidentiality documents, plus a competency exam with a minimum passing score of 80% or the facility's higher Angoff score.
