 - Dispensing and administering medications

- Attend sick calls with physicians to assess inmates/residents and prepare medical evaluations.
- Manage pill calls, dispense medication, and maintain documentation as per policies.
- Examine new patients or those who become ill/injured; refer to emergency care as needed.
- Perform emergency procedures and coordinate with Licensed Independent Providers.
- Mentor and supervise licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.

Key Responsibilities:

- Monitor inpatient hospitalizations for potential early releases.
- Foster good relations with facility staff, nursing staff, and outside providers.
- Evaluate medical services and prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of medical records.
- Collaborate with the Health Service Administrator to review medical files.
- Audit pharmacy usage for adherence to established standards.
- Observe and document inmate/resident behavior accurately.
- Inspect the medical unit for contraband and ensure proper storage of supplies.
- Provide health counseling and education.
- Prepare and maintain standard reports, logs, and documentation.
- Read and interpret medical and technical documents effectively.
- Participate in legal proceedings and assist with lawsuits as needed.
- Contribute to NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO accreditation by efficiently delivering medical services.
- Compile safety and incident reports and address emergencies appropriately.
