Medical Lab Technician

Specialty: Laboratory Employment Type: Travel/Contract Location: Linville, North Carolina Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Day, 5 x 8 hours (8:00 to 16:30), 40 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• 1 year of Medical Lab Technician experience, including experience within the last year
• APTA - Neurology Certification
• ASCP or AMT
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association
• Driver's License
• Phlebotomy experience
• Experience with Epic

Health Requirements

• Physical exam: Initial physical required, updated annually to attest to the ability to meet the physical demands of the position
• TB screening: 2-step negative PPD (2 negative readings within the year), QuantiFERON Gold, or T-spot within 1 year of start, updated annually
• MMR (measles, mumps, rubella): 2 MMR vaccines or a positive titer within 5 years. A low or equivocal titer requires 2 boosters or an approved medical exemption. Exemptions are not accepted for these vaccines, except as noted for the medical exemption process.
• Varicella: 2 varicella vaccines or a positive titer within 5 years. Zoster (Shingrix) is not acceptable. A low or equivocal titer requires 2 boosters or a declination form.
• Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or signed declination, with titer dated within 5 years
• Influenza: Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season. Facility-specific deadline for the 2026-27 season is October 29.
• Drug screen: 10-panel drug screen including marijuana (instant acceptable) within 30 days of start, updated annually. The facility-specific version states the drug screen must be completed within 90 days prior to start.

Background and Compliance

• Criminal background check: 7-year check within a year of start, updated annually, covering all locations lived or worked in the past 7 years. Candidates with a hit must complete a criminal history investigation form.
• Exclusion checks: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG, required within 30 days of start and updated with each contract renewal or extension
• Work authorization: I-9 attestation and E-Verify (proof or attestation)
• Photo ID: Government-issued photo ID required, carried on person during all hours of service
• Subcontractors only: Core Part I, II, and III (signed HIPAA form preferred, or core testing)

Onboarding Documents

• Employment application or complete resume
• Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluation also accepted)
• Performance evaluation, if the candidate has previously worked with the agency for over 1 year
• Internal evaluation, if the candidate has previously worked with the agency for over 2 years
• Competency exam, and medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Skills checklist, updated annually
• Self-study orientation and post-test
• Accountability statements and personal data sheet
• Badge photo: JPEG, passport style, submitted within 48 hours of signing, meeting the facility's photo requirements
• Medical exemption form, if applicable, signed by a medical provider

Note: Self-study orientation, post-test, accountability statements, and personal data sheet must be completed again after any break in contract, however brief.
