Overview

• Location: Lakewood, California
• Unit: Emergency Department (ED), working Tele Overflow patients
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Schedule

• Shift: Night, 19:00-07:30 (3x12 hours)
• Hours: 12 per day, 36 per week
• Coverage: Weekend coverage required
• Float: Float required

Required Qualifications

• License: Valid RN license in California
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, completed within the last year
• Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association or RQI
  • BLS issued by the American Heart Association or RQI
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification
• Technology: Experience with Epic

• First-time travelers are accepted.
• Local candidates are accepted.
• Additional info exempts Tele and MS/Tele RNs from the NIH Stroke Certification requirement, which conflicts with the NIHSS listed under required certifications.

Health and Background

• Background check: Criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually, with a 7-year search (statewide, nationwide, sex offender, SS trace, and federal). Open cases and DUI hits within the last 5 years result in automatic cancellation.
• Physical exam: Within 1 year of start, updated annually
• N95 fit test: Within 1 year of start, renewed annually. PAPR is accepted only with proof of a failed N95 fit test.
• TB screening: Negative PPD, TSpot, or QuantiFERON within 1 year of start. A positive result requires a negative chest X-ray within 4 years and an annual TB questionnaire.
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Rubeola, mumps, rubella, and varicella: positive titer, or 2 vaccines after age 1 (negative or equivocal titers require 2 boosters)
  • Hepatitis B: series or declination (titer not accepted)
  • Hepatitis C: titer strongly preferred, declination accepted
  • Tdap: required, with a pertussis titer accepted if it cannot be obtained for a health reason
• Flu vaccine: Required by 12/5 for the 2026-27 season. Declinations are accepted, but candidates who decline must follow seasonal masking guidelines.
• Drug screen: 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (instant drug screen accepted), not updated annually

Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID
• Signed HIPAA acknowledgment
• Confidentiality agreement, completed within 72 hours of signing
• Facility-specific job description, orientation acknowledgment, and skills self-assessment, all signed in DocuSign
• Skin care standard of care attestation (RN, LVN, and CNA)
• Epidural pain policy review (RNs, before start)
• ICU traveler tip sheet acknowledgment (required for ICU clinicians)
• Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act acknowledgment and Lakewood-specific demographic, emergency contact, and orientation packets
