Med Surg RN

• Shift: 06:45 - 19:15

Responsibilities

• Provides direct nursing care under established policies, procedures, and protocols
• Implements and monitors patient care plans; monitors, records, and communicates patient condition
• Serves as primary coordinator across disciplines for patient care
• Carries out physician and nursing orders
• Assesses and coordinates discharge planning with the healthcare team
• Works with minimal supervision in a stressful environment, using critical thinking and sound judgment
• Follows Standard Precautions and uses personal protective equipment as required

• Young adults (17 to under 30 years)
• Middle adults (30 to under 60 years)
• Older adults (over 60 years)

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Texas
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Med Surg experience of at least 1 year, with experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS certification
• Driver's license

Onboarding and Clearance Requirements

• At least two professional references, completed before first assignment
• Clinical skills checklist, completed within one year of start and updated annually

Completed before clearance

• Specialty exam: minimum 80%, two attempts allowed, completed before first assignment and updated every 3 years
• EKG exam: minimum 80%, two attempts allowed, updated every 3 years
• Color vision test, updated every 3 years
• Core competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics): completed within one year of start, updated every 3 years, minimum 80%, two attempts allowed
• NIH certification (Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F every 2 years)
• Pre-hire modules for StatStrip, required annually
• Onboarding education attestation, uploaded by the agency after the 6-hour pre-hire modules
• Onboarding completed onsite
• Electronic health record test-out with training checklist and signed attestation
• Education verification within 90 days of start (diplomas not accepted; official transcripts required if verification fails)
• Confirmation of assignment on agency letterhead, updated with each extension
• Third-party employment verification for the past seven years, updated yearly
• Criminal background check (SSN trace, OIG, National Sex Offender, national criminal, OFAC, VOSP) within 90 days of first assignment, updated yearly
• EPLS check within 90 days of start
• Drug screen: 11-panel, within 30 days before first assignment, updated annually
• Driver's license or state ID, not expired, showing front and back, with address matching records
• Badge photo: forward-facing headshot on white or blue background, no filters
• Disciplinary questionnaire, if any disciplinary actions apply

Health and immunization records

• MMR: two doses or positive IgG titer; no declinations accepted
• Varicella: two doses, serological immunity, or documented history; no declinations accepted
• Hepatitis B: completed vaccine series or signed declination
• Tdap: valid 10 years from administration; no declinations or attestations accepted
• Influenza vaccine (flu season October 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027): declinations accepted, but must wear a mask at all times
• TB screening: two-step PPD or IGRA (negative IGRA within 90 days of start); annual TB questionnaire; chest X-ray within one year if positive
• Health statement or physical exam before first assignment, updated annually
• Respirator fit test, updated annually (required for all travelers; PAPR fit tests not completed onsite; preferably completed before start)
