Role Overview

• Works under the direction of the charge RN to provide individualized nursing care for residents of the SNF service, in conjunction with physicians, nursing staff, residents, families, and other departments.
• Works under the direction of the charge RN to provide nursing care to acute patients.
• Works with the DON.

Responsibilities

• Conducts individualized patient assessments, prioritizing data collection by patient condition, and notifies the Charge Nurse and MD of abnormal findings.
• Develops individualized plans of care and documents assessment findings and progress.
• Administers medications and narcotics according to policy, verifying that medications are correct, not outdated, and in adequate supply.
• Performs treatments as ordered, including EKGs, blood draws, IV starts, and AM blood draws and specimen collection.
• Initiates emergency resuscitation measures and notifies staff, family, and physician.
• Completes end-of-shift walking rounds at 0630 and 1830, and maintains observation, acute, and swing bed charts.
• Coordinates patient transfers for procedures and diagnostic tests.
• Provides patient and family education.
• Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel each shift.
• Assists with orientation of new personnel and staff education as needed.

Required Qualifications

• California nursing license (the posting states "CA licensed nurse").
• Current BLS level CPR certification (BLS/BCLS).
• Good physical health and stamina, including the ability to walk, bend, lift, and perform manual patient care skills.
• Good mental health, with the ability to accept and tolerate behavior from confused or abusive patients.
• Able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and to see and hear adequately to perform job functions.
• Strong assessment skills and ability to act resourcefully in emergencies.
• Adaptable, able to follow directions, and accept change.
• Dependable, reliable, and has a history of good attendance.
• Must wear Caribbean blue scrubs; this is a requirement for accepting the position.

Working Conditions

• Willingness to work beyond normal hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
• Work hours are determined by department needs.
