Job Summary

Provide occupational therapy services primarily in acute and outpatient settings. Responsibilities include patient evaluation, treatment planning, intervention, and ongoing assessment in accordance with occupational therapy standards and physician orders. Supervise Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students as appropriate. Function as case manager for assigned cases and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient function using formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, developmental, social, and cognitive status.
• Develop and update goal-specific treatment plans based on patient assessment and tolerance.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers on pathology, prognosis, treatment rationale, and home programs.
• Recommend and assist in securing adaptive/supportive equipment.
• Document patient responses and treatment changes in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Provide supervision and training to support staff and students.
• Participate in program development, process improvement, and community education.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows and participate in ongoing learning opportunities.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Medium physical demand level: occasional lifting/carrying of 21-50 lbs., frequent lifting of 20 lbs., and constant handling of 10 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Exposure to stressful situations including trauma, grief, and death.
• Use of personal protective equipment as required.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, and maintain regular attendance.
• Overall dexterity including handling, reaching, grasping, and fingering.
• Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Occupational Therapist license in Michigan
• NBCOT Certification in Occupational Therapy
• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy

Preferred Qualifications

• Membership in the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
• Completion of OSHA training annually as required by the Exposure Control Plan
