Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Mount Vernon, Illinois Employment type: Travel/Contract Contract length: 13 weeks Unit: LDRP & Nursery Shift: Day, 4x12 hours (7:00 to 19:00) Hours: 12 per day, 48 per week Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 accepted. No call requirements. Required to work 1 Friday, 1 Saturday, and 1 Sunday shift in every 4-week schedule, not necessarily consecutive.

Unit Overview

• Deliveries: About 140 per month, with volume expected to rise to the 160s over the next several months.
• Diagnoses: Labor and Delivery, antepartum, gyn patients, gestational hypertension, diabetes mellitus, multiple birth.
• Procedures: Circumcisions, hearing screens, newborn screens, general admissions, C-sections, and inductions of labor.
• Physician coverage: In-house part-time, on-call for the remaining hours.
• Staffing per shift: Typically 1 charge nurse, 6 to 7 nurses, and 1 scrub nurse, adjusted for census.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois.
• Labor and Delivery experience (2 years).
• Labor and Delivery experience within the last year.
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure).
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Pre-Start Requirements

• Criminal background check completed within 12 months of start, including SSN trace, 7-year county search, nationwide search, and sex offender search.
• Negative drug screen within 12 months of start.
• Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 12 months of start. A chest X-ray within 5 years is needed if the PPD is positive.
• Measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella immunity documentation (titer or proof of 2 vaccines), required for new candidates.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start indicating good physical health.
• Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season. Vaccine is not offered onsite. Exemptions require agency approval and annual renewal.
• OSHA respirator clearance completed before start for fit testing onsite.
• Government-issued photo ID.
• Signed confidentiality and security agreement and standards of ethical conduct.
• Passport-style badge photo (shoulders up, plain white or off-white background, JPEG format).

Onboarding

• Fit testing onsite during the first week of orientation. The fit test record must be returned to the agency within two weeks of start, or the candidate risks removal from the assignment.
• Glucometer assessment during orientation, returned within 5 days, signed by a manager, preceptor, or charge nurse.
• Orientation checklist completed and returned within the first week.
• Online modules assigned by unit, due by the compliance date, with a transcript on file. Returning candidates with a gap of less than 6 months in the same unit may not need to redo modules.
