Location: Omaha, Nebraska Unit: 4th Floor East Wing (PCU) Shift: Nights, 12 hours (1830-0630) Hours: 48 per week Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

ACLS certification
BLS certification
NIHSS certification
Valid driver's license at submittal (used to verify distance from the facility)
Telemetry competency
Pass/fail exam during orientation (open book, 90% required to pass; failure results in termination)
Radius rule: must live within 50 miles and may not hold full-time, part-time, or PRN positions with any facility associated with the same health system
Artificial nails are prohibited; refusal to remove them results in termination

Unit Details

Level of care: PCU
Beds: 55
Patient population: Adult; pediatric patients are rare and are 15 and older
RN ratio (days and nights): 1:4
Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
Common diagnoses: CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, weakness
Common drips/medications: PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, insulin
Equipment: Alaris IV pumps; mechanical lifts in every other room
EMR: Epic
Scrubs: Navy blue
Support staff: Nursing assistants, charge nurse, educator, care managers, social workers, dietitians, PT, OT
Float: Yes, ideally to MS areas, based on highest need
Unit challenges: Staffing

Pros

I worked 4South/ the people are amazing and flexible, helpful, and supportive to work with. The charges are incredibly helpful.

Cons

Poor communication between residents/ attendings l which affects what is told to nursing and communicated to nursing. This was a huge issue working here. Also the resources are low, things always out of stock on the floor, only one translator / bladder scanner per floor , things like that.
