Surgical Technician - Must have Ortho experience

Location: Lamar, Colorado Employment Type: Contract Contract Length: 9 weeks Hours per Week: 36 Shift: Generally 6:30am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday, with rotating on-call for nights and weekends. May have to stay late due to a late surgery case.

Role Overview

• Provides technical support to surgeons, RNs, and anesthesia providers in the operating room, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Arranges supplies and instruments, keeps an accurate count, passes sterile supplies to the surgeon, and helps apply dressings and prepare specimens.
• Works in Sterile Processing: operates sterilizers, runs tests to validate sterilization, and validates sterility of packaged supplies.
• Cleans and decontaminates surgical instruments after surgery (after regular hours), checks instrument sterility before cases, and ensures instruments are in proper working condition before and after cases.
• Inspects sterile items for contamination, maintains sterility, anticipates supply and equipment needs, checks for outdates, restocks the operating room, and orders supplies.
• Reports directly to the Surgical Services Department Manager.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) license in Colorado.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with a minimum of 5 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
• Orthopedic Technologist experience, including experience working with orthopedic patients.

Working Conditions

• Mental: Moderate to high stress. Requires physical and emotional stamina, and the ability to adjust and interact with many different people and projects.
• Physical: Long periods of standing and walking, and heavy lifting. Possible exposure to blood, body fluids, unpleasant sights and smells, and infectious diseases.
