Job Summary

The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the whole person and a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. Practice is based on evidence, current research, hospital and department policies, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. The RN coordinates and provides direct patient care on the unit, including nursing rounds, assessments, treatments, admission, transfer, and discharge activities, patient and family-centered education, and care coordination and individualized treatment planning as applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and document comprehensive assessments within RN scope of practice, considering the patient's culture, age, and developmental level.
• Identify patient risk factors, collect objective and subjective data, and develop a prioritized problem list with the interprofessional team.
• Determine desired outcomes with the patient and family, and implement care therapies and procedures within scope of practice and established policies.
• Explain procedures and treatments to patients and families, address stress and discomfort, and identify and address patient educational needs.
• Recognize, respond to, and communicate changes in patient condition.
• Delegate tasks, oversee team members, and monitor the accuracy and completeness of delegated care.
• Facilitate discharges by executing orders in a timely manner, performing discharge teaching, and coordinating with Case Management and others.
• Provide input into patient and nurse assignments based on staffing, unit activity, and patient acuity.
• Participate in unit-based activities and quality improvement efforts, including patient satisfaction, falls, pressure ulcers, CAUTIs, and documentation audits.
