Chemistry Lab Tech

Location: Peoria, Illinois Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Days, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week (6:30 AM to 3:00 PM) Job Type: MT (Medical Technologist)

Required Qualifications

• Medical Technologist experience (1 year), including experience within the last year
• BLS certification
• Four-year (bachelor's) degree or two-year (associate's) degree in a clinical laboratory field
• Medical Lab Technician experience

Desired Experience

• Experience in a large, tertiary hospital lab
• Trauma 1 experience
• Children's hospital and St. Jude clinic level experience
• Complex hematology and blood bank clinical experience

Department and Duties

• Core lab: Hematology, coagulation, and chemistry. Microbiology and blood bank are included for third shift.
• Assignments vary by posting, and each posting states which department is being hired for.
• Hired for one clinical lab department for the full contract. Generalist roles are not normally required unless stated in the posting.
• Phlebotomy is not required. A dedicated team performs it.
• Lab assistants are used on a limited basis, mainly for blood delivery to units in the blood bank department.
• Systems used: Epic Beaker (software familiarity, not a credential).
• Duties and must-have skills vary by department and current needs.

Schedule and Policies

• Rotating weekends and holidays. Holidays are not normally required.
• No call or standby call.
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling. The position may be asked to move to a different shift mid-contract if vacancies shift.
• Call-off policy: equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks, with no penalty or need to pay for the shift.
• Orientation: 12 hours, non-billable. Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation. Department orientation is typically 2 to 3 weeks, depending on competency.
• Third shift supervisor position is currently vacant.
