Location: Normal, Illinois Employment Type: Clinical-Nursing Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Day, 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM (12 hours per day, 36 hours per week)

Role Overview

The staff Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The nurse provides care using the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and financial and human resources, consistent with the institution's philosophy.

Responsibilities

• Perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit within the scope of service, and fulfill all departmental competencies.
• Prepare the OR suite for patients, including supplies, equipment, medications, and other needs.
• Interview patients using two patient identifiers (name and birthdate).
• Transport patients to the OR suite and onto the OR table using safety precautions. Perform timeouts upon entering the suite, before incision, and before exiting the suite.
• Position and prep patients for procedures using positional aids and guidelines.
• Support the surgical team during procedures, including responding to requests for extra supplies, blood, specimens, cultures, medications, and dressings.
• Transport patients to PACU or a specific unit and provide handoff to the receiving RN.
• Complete an initial assessment upon patient admission and develop and implement a plan of care based on patient and family needs. Modify the plan based on continuous evaluation.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Report or correct safety hazards and incidents to protect patient and employee safety.
• Communicate directly and privately with others when necessary to resolve issues.
• Give constructive feedback to peers, confer with colleagues, and identify and pursue personal learning needs.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum of three (3) years of Operating Room (OR) experience
• Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
