Mother Baby Nurse (RN)

Overview

• Location: San Bernardino, California
• Specialty: Mother Baby/Post Partum
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours per shift, 3 shifts per week (36 hours per week)

Required Qualifications

• 2 full years of experience, including 1 year of postpartum experience
• Active BLS certification
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification, including fetal monitoring
• NIHSS certification
• Active California RN license

Unit Details

• Unit: MB (Couplet Care)
• Postpartum beds: 23 ready for use
• Volume: Averages 3-4 births per day, about 1,100 per year
• Ratio: Maximum of 4 couplets
• Patients: Postpartum mothers and newborns
• Support: Usually has a free charge nurse. No nurse aides or surgical techs on the unit.
• Coverage: OB and neonatologist in house 24/7
• Equipment: Pulse oximetry
• Drips: RNs are not required to titrate drips, and there are no commonly titratable drips.
• Telemetry: No telemetry on this unit. No monitor techs, and RNs do not read strips.

Schedule and Requirements

• Weekends: 1 weekend every other week
• Holidays: 1 major and 2 minor
• Call/standby: May be placed on standby if census is low
• Floating: Not required. The shift notes also list "First to Float," which conflicts with this.
• Scrub color: Navy blue
• Orientation: 1 day of unit/department orientation
