Registered Nurse - PCU (Medical-Renal)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Night, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM) Hours: 12 per day, 36 per week

Unit Details

• Unit: PCU (Medical-Renal)
• Ratio: 1:5
• Patients: Adult and geriatric
• Focus: Hospitalist Medicine patients with renal and other medical diagnoses
• Dedicated bed: One bed for chronic vent patients
• Alternate coverage: Gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and other surgical or procedural patients covered by hospitalists
• Floating: Required to float within skillset
• Facility: Private, not-for-profit, general acute care teaching hospital with 703 licensed beds, the region's only Level I Trauma Center (adult and pediatric), a certified stroke center, and Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Experience working with cardiac patients
• Experience with cardiac drips
• Experience with the care and management of invasive lines
• Experience with blood product administration
• Experience with non-invasive airway management
• Experience with Epic

Scheduling and Assignment Terms

• Charting: Charting system (EMR) experience required
• Weekends: Either every other weekend, or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Holidays: One holiday per 13-week contract
• Scheduling requests: All requests (RTO, block, and special) must be included with the submission
• Call-offs: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• First-time travelers: Accepted
• Local candidates: Accepted, subject to radius rule criteria in the submittal instructions

Onboarding Requirements

• Competency exams as applicable to profession and specialty, including a medication test and pharmacology competency
• Core testing or signed HIPAA form for subcontractors
• New hire paperwork, completed before start
• Access and confidentiality agreement, completed within 48 hours of signing
• Contract staff orientation manual, reviewed before start
• Fit testing form, only if fit testing is completed onsite
