Float Pool RN (Intensive Care Unit)

Overview

• Location: Elizabethtown, Kentucky
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, 7p-7a, weekend and holiday rotation
• Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Role Summary

The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person, providing direct patient care through rounds, assessments, treatments, admission/transfer/discharge activities, patient and family education, and individualized care planning. Nurses float between ICU, Telemetry, Med/Surg, and PCU, so they must be comfortable moving across these units and caring for patients of varying acuity.

Required Qualifications

• Valid, active, unrestricted RN license in Kentucky
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience, including Telemetry experience
• 1 year of Critical Care Float experience, with Critical Care Float experience within the last year
• ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN); additional experience cannot substitute for the degree
• BLS issued by the American Heart Association, within 90 days of hire

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and document patient assessments, develop problem lists, and implement care plans
• Delegate tasks and oversee team members' patient care
• Execute discharge orders and coordinate discharge planning with Case Management
• Hourly patient rounding and bedside shift report
• Ongoing communication with physicians and other departments
• Adherence to infection-control protocols and patient privacy and confidentiality requirements

Physical Requirements and Exposures

• Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling over 35 lbs, frequent walking, repetitive motion and bending, and color discrimination for clinical cues
• Regular exposure to blood, body fluids, sharps, and airborne infectious diseases
