Emergency Department RN (ER)

Overview

• Location: Mount Vernon, Illinois
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Start: ASAP
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Day, 4x12-hour shifts (11:00 to 23:30), 12 hours per day, 48 hours per week
• Patient ratio: 1:4
• Schedule options: 3x12 or 4x12 accepted
• Weekend coverage: 6 scheduled weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) in a 6-week schedule
• Call: No call requirement
• Holidays: Rotating holiday coverage
• Pending licensure: Accepted pending Illinois license. Candidate must apply before or upon submission.
• Travel policy: Unit does not accept first-time travelers.
• Attire: Navy scrubs

Requirements

• Valid RN license in Illinois (pending license accepted; see Overview)
• ED (Emergency Department) experience: minimum of 2 years
• ED (Emergency Department) experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or RQI (AHA RQI accepted)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or RQI (AHA RQI accepted)
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification, updated annually; any vendor accepted
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification; a Crisis consultant group or Blue card is accepted
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience with Epic

Clinical Skills

• STEMI and stroke certified facility
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• IV therapy/phlebotomy and IV medications
• CVA, neuro-trauma, ortho-trauma, and head injuries
• CPAP/BiPAP
• Gunshot wounds and traumatic amputation
• Triage

Pre-Start Health, Background, and Compliance

• Criminal background check within 12 months of start
• Negative drug screen within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or TSPOT) within 12 months of start. Chest X-ray within 5 years is required after a positive PPD.
• TB questionnaire at start and annually
• Physical within 1 year of start, indicating good physical health (not updated annually)
• Rubeola, mumps, rubella, and varicella: positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines
• Hepatitis B titer, series, or declination (new candidates only)
• Two references
• Illinois Abuse Registry search, if required by the client (requires a signed authorization form; turnaround 6 to 8 weeks)
• Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (hard deadline 12/5). Exemptions must be renewed annually. Declinations are not accepted.
• COVID initial vaccine series preferred
• Signed confidentiality and security agreement and standards of ethical conduct before start
• Photo for badge: passport-style, plain white or off-white background, shoulders up, JPEG format

Respiratory Protection

• OSHA respirator clearance required before start
• Fit testing onsite during the first week of orientation; fit test record must be returned within 2 weeks of start
• Must shave to ensure a mask seal for fit testing
• CAPRs and PAPRs are not provided, and personal CAPRs or PAPRs are not permitted; there are no exceptions
• Failure to shave for fit testing will result in cancellation

Orientation and Training

• Required modules must be completed by the compliance due date and updated annually
• Glucometer assessment during orientation, returned within 5 days
• Orientation checklist completed during orientation and returned within the first week
