Assignment Overview

• Location: Long Beach, California
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night, 4 x 12-hour shifts, 19:00 to 07:30 (12 hours/day, 48 hours/week)
• Weekend coverage: Every other weekend
• Call and float: Call required; float required

• Purpose: Backfills an existing staff member.
• Scrubs: Navy

Role and Patient Population

• Patient age groups: Adolescents, adults, geriatrics
• Patient diagnoses and unit focus: Neurology, stroke, cardiac, wound care, respiratory, orthopedics, oncology, surgical
• Communication system: SBAR
• Medication systems: Pyxis and Omnicell

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience of 1 year, within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Certification required for MS/Tele)
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
• Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• Non-invasive airway management
• Experience with Epic

Competency and Testing

• Medication calculation test (required for all RNs)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (Basic or Advanced version), with an onsite pass/fail exam
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam
• Competency exam within 2 years of start
• Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
• Color blind testing, updated annually
• Annual internal evaluation, required if the clinician has worked with the agency for a year or more

Background, Health, and Documentation

• Background: Standard background check within 1 year of start, updated annually; EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG screenings
• Identification and paperwork: Government-issued photo ID, emergency contact form, employment application, 2 professional references
• Physical and health:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • N95 fit mask within 1 year, renewed annually (onsite fit testing not offered)
  • Tdap within the last 10 years (declination allowed)
  • Negative TB test within 1 year, plus annual TB questionnaire
  • Titers or vaccines for measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella (declination allowed for some)
  • Flu vaccine November 1 to April 30 (declination allowed)
  • COVID vaccination record preferred
• Drug screen: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year, without a marijuana panel. In California, urine marijuana testing is prohibited, and saliva testing is used only if the client requires it.
• Badge photo: Not required for this facility.
