Surgical Technician

Location: Mason City, Iowa Employment Type: Long-term assignment (LTA) Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: 06:30 - 15:00 Holiday Coverage: Will need to take call on Christmas or New Year's.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTSA certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association, required for all direct patient care personnel

Required Competencies and Testing

• Specialty-specific competency exam, completed within the past year
• Skills checklist, completed within the past year (the agency provides this for clinical contractors)
• Joint Commission CORE exam, completed within the past year
• Color vision test
• N95 respirator fit test (1860 S and R and 1870)

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within the past year documenting fitness to work
• Two-step PPD or IGRA (QuantiFERON/T-SPOT) TB test. A negative result must be within a year of start, or a two-step PPD must have both reads within the last year. A positive chest X-ray within a year of start is accepted.
• Drug screen with a panel that excludes THC, completed within 30 days of start (preferably within 14 days) and resulted before start with MRO signature
• Proof of MMR (two vaccinations with dates, or a primary source IgG titer)
• Proof of varicella (one vaccination with date, or a primary source IgG titer)
• Hepatitis B: three doses or declination
• Tdap within the past 10 years. Declination is accepted only where the site allows it and the assignment does not require pediatric interaction.
• COVID-19 vaccine: proof of September 2025 booster, or declination or exemption on agency letterhead
• Influenza vaccine for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 seasons: proof, or declination or exemption on agency letterhead

Background Checks and Screenings

• Criminal background check (federal, nationwide, and county, last 7 years) with SSN verification, dated within 30 days of start
• Sex offender registry check (NSOPW; Michigan also requires the statewide check), dated within 30 days of start
• Iowa criminal history, sex offender, dependent adult, and child abuse registry check, completed within 30 days before start (required by law)
• Child and adult dependent abuse training (Iowa only)
• Exclusion screenings: EPLS (SAM.gov) and OIG, dated within 30 days of start
• OFAC sanctions search, completed within 30 days of start
• Education verification of highest level completed (degree, or high school diploma/GED)

Forms and Onboarding

• Profile with resume, skills checklist from within the past year, and two professional references, submitted with the application
• Signed code of conduct page, confidentiality agreement page, and conflict of interest disclosure page on file
• Non-employee upload form (pages 1-3 and 28)
• Standard I-9, completed by the agency
• Integrity and audit services form, signed within days before start
• System access form, completed and uploaded one week before start
• Badge photo
