Medical Technologist (Laboratory)

Location: Brookville, Pennsylvania Employment type: Travel/Contract Contract length: 8 weeks (Mon, Oct 19, 2026 to Fri, Dec 11, 2026)

Schedule

• Night shift, 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, 3 x 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend, with the first weekend starting 10/30/26
• Every two weeks the schedule rotates. On some nights the start time may be 10:00 PM instead of 6:00 PM, ending at 6:00 PM, if coverage allows to reduce overtime.

Role Responsibilities

• Generalist laboratory work: phlebotomy, chemistry, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and micro plating (no reading of micro plates)
• No phlebotomist is scheduled after 6:00 PM, so phlebotomy skills are required.
• Works alone on night shift, per DOH regulation.
• Instrumentation and systems in use: LIS (Cerner Millennium), chemistry (Abbott Alinity ci), hematology (Sysmex XN 2000), coagulation (IL ACL Top 350), urinalysis (Sysmex UA), serology/immunology (Roche LIAT and Qiagen), and blood bank (Automated Echo Lumena, computer crossmatching, and tube backup)

Required Qualifications

• Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Bachelor of Science degree
• At least 6 years of experience
• Phlebotomy skills
• BLS certification (AHA, ARC, or military acceptable), required for all travelers
• State license, verified through primary source online verification
• Competency exam, required as applicable by profession, with a passing score (meets or exceeds the Angoff score)

Certifications and Conditional Requirements

• ACLS (AHA, ARC, or military acceptable), required as applicable

Background and Screening

• 7-year criminal search, required within 1 year of start
• PA Childline search, required within 1 year of start
• FBI fingerprinting and PA Department of Human Services fingerprint results, required within 12 months of start. Fingerprinting must be completed in PA, and results must be on file before start.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM check, required
• HHS/OIG check, required
• Education verification, required (transcripts, diplomas, or third-party verification accepted)
• Government-issued photo ID
• Passport-style photo for badge
• Two professional references, within 3 years of hire
• Skills checklist, required annually
• Bloodborne pathogen quiz, orientation packet and acknowledgements, and medical surveillance checklist, all completed before start

Health Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (not required annually)
• Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON Gold, or T-SPOT) within 6 months of start, or a chest X-ray within 5 years if TB-positive, plus annual TB questionnaire
• Tdap within the past 10 years, or a facility declination form
• Measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella: positive titer or vaccine series. Non-immune titers may use a facility declination form, 2 vaccines, or 1 booster. Declination is only accepted with titer or vaccine documentation.
• COVID vaccine or facility declination
• Flu vaccine or facility declination during flu season (Nov to April). Those who decline must wear a mask through 3/31.
• Alcohol breathalyzer test within 30 days of start (not required at certain facilities)
