The Certified Hospice and Palliative Licensed Nurse (CHPLN) certification is designed for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) or licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) who specialize in hospice and palliative care. This certification demonstrates expertise in providing compassionate care to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Completion Time: 3 hours

Eligibility

  • Current, unrestricted LPN/LVN license.

  • At least two years of recent experience in hospice and palliative care nursing.

  • Before applying for the examination, the candidate must have completed 500 hours in the last 12 months or 1,000 hours in the last 24 months under the supervision of an RN.

Cost: $240 for HPNA members, $345 for non-members.

Course Format

Exam Format

The CHPLN exam may be ​​scheduled at a PSI test center or taken via live remote proctoring.

This computer-based exam typically includes 150 multiple-choice questions (15 unscored) covering pain and symptom management, psychosocial aspects of care, spiritual care, and end-of-life care.
