The Certified in Perinatal Loss Care (CPLC) certification is a professional credential for healthcare professionals specializing in the care of families experiencing perinatal loss. Administered by the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center (HPCC), this certification recognizes expertise in providing compassionate and comprehensive care to families during and after a perinatal loss, which includes miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, or the death of a young infant.

Cost: Renewal for HPNA members: $240 early bird rate, $340 standard rate. Renewal for non-members: $380 early bird rate, $480 standard rate. Reactivation for HPNA members:$490. Reactivation for non-members: $630.

Renews: Every 4 years. This certification was discontinued by HPCC effective January 1, 2022. However, recertification for this credential will still be available through the Hospice and Palliative Accrual for Recertification (HPAR) process.

Requirements

  • An active license as a Registered Nurse (RN), social worker, chaplain, or other healthcare professional roles.

  • Clinical experience in the field of perinatal loss care, including direct patient care and support for grieving families.

  • To recertify your CPLC® credential, complete the Hospice and Palliative Accrual for Recertification (HPAR).

  • During your recertification, courses completed through HPNA University and the POLARIS modules will automatically sync with your Learning Plan. Courses from outside HPNA must be manually entered into your plan.

Renewal

CPLC certification requires renewal every 4 years.

Renewal involves completing continuing education credits related to perinatal loss care and bereavement support, and submitting a recertification application with a fee.

To accumulate points for your CPLC® renewal, you can report your progress starting from the day your certification begins until you submit your application. You can submit your HPAR application one year prior to your expiration date and up until the expiration date.

Continuing Education

Specific CE requirements typically include courses or training related to bereavement, grief counseling, perinatal care, and communication skills.
