About

Dementia Capable Care (DCC) Certified Instructor Training is the identical to DCC certification. Once a candidate complete DCC training, they're eligible to become a certified instructor and teach others. DCC training equips frontline staff and health workers with the tools to provide the best care for people with dementia. The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) provides the training and the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) accredits the Crisis Prevention Institute. The DCC program combines the Claudia Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model with Kitwood's person-centered care model and CPI verbal de-escalation techniques to achieve measurable results.

Eligibility

Organizations select participants within their ranks to participate in training. Participants are generally leaders within these organizations.

Course Format

Certification Format

  • Receive an invitation to complete the online course part of the training

    • Approximately 10 days before the virtual training

  • Complete one 7-hour day of live virtual classroom training

  • Receive an email containing a link to a test

  • Pass the one-hour online test

Renewal

Dementia Capable Care certification is valid for two years. Applicants must meet the following requirements for renewal:

  • Complete a Dementia Capable Care Training course

  • Complete an Online Certification Exam

  • Pay annual membership fees

Renewal Course Training Costs: 

  • Blended Renewal Training $1,549 for individuals with a current certification
