Unit Highlights
The 5 West Surgical Unit has the capacity to serve up to (20) patients with a focus on a variety of surgical specialty patients. Many of these patients have elective surgeries and are discharged within 1-2 days of their procedure. These specialties include but are not limited to: Orthopedic, Bariatric, General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Spinal Surgery. Staff are uniquely trained to work with these patients as they are educated in general post-operative patient care as well as the aspects of each specialty care domain. Staff on this unit will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team which includes: PACU staff, Attending Surgical Providers, Surgical Physician Assistants, Hospitalists, Physical Therapy/Rehab, Respiratory Therapy, and of course Nursing. This unit follows the standard for medical/surgical nursing staff to patient ratio’s that are in place across our Medstar Enterprise. The staff also enjoy collaboration with fully functional Patient Care Technicians which assist in facilitating patient care activities in collaboration with the RN. We offer all private patient rooms and are currently updating and refreshing all rooms to promote a positive, healing environment. Staff will enjoy flexible scheduling options as well as an environment that supports our Medstar Spirit Values of Teamwork, Service, and Patient First. 

 

Available Positions: Full-time 7:00pm-7:00am

 

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse, you will provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs—from routine to highly complex. You will assess evolving patient conditions, identify actual and potential health concerns, and develop appropriate care plans. Interventions may be delivered directly or coordinated through collaboration with other members of the nursing team

Qualifications

• ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
• One year of RN experience.
• Active MD RN License or Active Compact State RN and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross).

This position has a hiring range of : USD $36.00 - USD $54.97 /Yr.
