Job Summary
Under the general direction of Nursing Leadership and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, and policies and procedures of the program(s). Delivers efficient, high quality and safe nursing care to all clients in the program(s). Monitors, assesses, plans care, intervenes and evaluates the medical/ psychiatric nursing management of clients within ambulatory and/or 3.5 residential levels of care, as assigned by the Nurse Manager (NM) and/or Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) and/or BHH RN Program Manager. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assesses and appropriately addresses the medical needs of clients from any level of care, including potential admissions, as defined in the RN scope of practice.
  2. Delivers effective nursing care for chronic medical and psychiatric conditions, calling upon medical and psychiatric resources, as needed.
  3. Provides behaviorally oriented nursing interventions and leads groups on various medically related topics. Calls upon psychiatric resources and performs crisis intervention, as needed.
  4. Provides medication education to clients, including intended effects and actual side effects of prescribed medications. Evaluates clients for actual effects on routine basis, seeking timely modification of medication orders when desired effects are not achieved and documents timely.
  5. Ensures customers’ needs are met, responding appropriately to difficult interactions, and practicing principles of quality customer service.
  6. Prepares appropriate medical documentation to meet regulatory requirements of licensing and third-party agencies.
  7. Ensures that the covering MD/PA/APRN is notified of all pertinent information in a timely fashion.
  8. Administers injectable medications and calls in refills for delivery if applicable.  Tracks the client’s need for injectable refills.
  9. Assumes responsibility for self-improvement in collaboration with the leadership team by identifying, communicating and seeking resources or instruction/validation to meet own learning needs, and is self-directed in maintaining currency of validations.
  10. Embodies the HHC leadership behaviors and company values and effectively utilizes the HHC operating model.
  11. Completes required learning by designated deadline.
  12. Performs other related duties as required.
     

Qualifications


  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Associate's degree in Nursing
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred
  • Successful completion of nurse residency, if applicable
  • AED Training within one month of employment
  • One year of experience with a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical experience as a licensed registered nurse
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience in Psychiatric or Substance Abuse Treatment is preferred
  • Registered Nurse, State of CT
  • Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AMA) within one month of employment
  • Additional certifications may be required in specific specialties
  • Accredited certification in Addiction Nursing (CARN) or Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing (or is actively pursuing credentialing) is preferred
