Charge Nurse - Lactation Consultant (N2)


Job Details: Internal Posting: 3/28/24 to 4/10/24 N2 - Lactation Consultant- Certification required Summary: Under the supervision of a higher level professional nurse, the Lactation Nurse will assist in the clinical management of patients using accepted nursing practice such as the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual and potential health problems through such services as case findings, health counseling and provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being, and executing medical regimens prescribed by a physician. The Lactation Nurse shall be responsible for helping breastfeeding women and families, define and achieve their breastfeeding goals. Breastfeeding education and counseling are an integral part of the care provided by the lactation consultant. The Lactation Nurse enhances the knowledge and strengths of the breastfeeding woman and her support systems. Establishes priorities based on individual needs of each breastfeeding mother, infant, child and family. Develops a plan of care based on individual concerns and problems, formulates expected outcomes and arranges for follow-up evaluation. Respects the unique cultural and ethnic attitudes of our patient populations with respect toward breastfeeding. Demonstrates competency in lactation consultation practice. Collaborates with other health care disciplines to coordinate patient care and discharge plans. Maintains effective communication with staff, physicians, clients and families, also within the unit and with other departments. Supervision is exercised over professional nurses, aides and clerical support staff, which includes practical training and staff development. License:Current license in New York State as a Registered Professional Nurse. Certified in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association. Lactation certification is required (IBCLC). Training and Experience: must have one year of professional nursing experience in the area of Lactation and BSN preferred.
