Registered Nurse - Procedure Rooms
Boston Children's Hospital is launching a dedicated pediatric procedural service providing sedation and anesthesia supported care for tests and procedures outside the operating room. This nurse works within the procedure rooms, facilitating and assisting a diverse mix of procedures including dental restorations and extractions, botulinum toxin injections, lumbar punctures, PICC line placement, and other minor tests and procedures. The program serves children who require sedation or anesthesia, with a special focus on children with developmental, behavioral, and medical complexity, including oncology patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitating and assisting procedures within the procedure rooms across multiple specialties, supporting proceduralists, anesthesiologists, and sedation medicine physicians throughout each case.
- Managing room readiness, patient positioning, procedural equipment, instrumentation, and supplies to support safe, efficient case flow and turnover across varied procedure types.
- Supporting patient safety during procedural sedation and anesthesia, including monitoring assistance, time-outs, medication and specimen handling.
- Coordinating case progression and communication with pre-procedure and PACU teams to support smooth handoffs into and out of the procedure rooms.
- Building strong partnerships with Child Life Specialists to prepare both the environment and the child for the procedure, including liaising with the patient's family to learn what works best for each child, with particular attention to patients with autism, behavioral health needs, and high procedural anxiety.
- Supporting urgent add-on case flow and escalation pathways in a family-centered procedural environment.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Minimum of 2 years perioperative, procedural, or intensive care nursing experience.
- Pediatric experience required.
- Demonstrated commitment to caring for children with special needs and medically complex conditions.
- Current Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse RN
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
