Registered Nurse, Medical-Surgical (4th Surgical)


This position is eligible for a commitment bonus! $20,000 for experienced RNs, and $10,000 for new graduate RNs.

Schedule:  3 x 12 hr. shifts per week on the Day Shift (7a - 7p) + rotating weekends

The 4th Surgical unit is an inpatient medical-surgical nursing unit providing post-operative care and recovery support for patients undergoing general, specialized, and minimally invasive or robotic-assisted surgical procedures. Nurses on this unit support patients through post-surgical recovery by providing monitoring, pain management, wound care, and ongoing assessment following inpatient or outpatient procedures. The team also cares for patients recovering from general surgeries such as hernia repairs, gallbladder removals, bowel resections, and advanced robotic-assisted procedures performed through the hospital's da Vinci Surgical System.

 

How you'll contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical who excels in this role:

  • Completes initial and ongoing assessments.
  • Assessments include physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age appropriate, cultural and discharge planning needs.
  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Employee supervises others.
  • Assists with orientation and training of others as directed.

What we're looking for

  • Applicants should have a current RN license to practice in NC (NC licensure or multi-state (compact) license). 
  • Associate's degree in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • 1-3 years preferred and recent acute care experience within past 3 years preferred.

Additional requirements include:

  • Requires critical thinking skills.
  • Decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Handle with care within 4 months after hire date.
