Job Title: Bus Nurse (RN/LPN)
Location: Mobile, Alabama
Position Type: 6 hours per day - split into two ~3-hour shifts (Morning and Afternoon Routes)
Position Overview:
RCM Health Care Services is seeking compassionate and experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide medical support for students during school transportation in Mobile, Alabama. The Bus Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of medically fragile students while traveling to and from school.
This position involves riding the school bus during morning and afternoon routes, providing skilled nursing care and monitoring students who require medical support while in transit.
Responsibilities:
- Ride the school bus with students during morning pickup and afternoon drop-off routes
- Provide direct medical care and monitoring to students during transportation
- Respond appropriately to any medical emergencies that may arise during transport
- Follow each student’s Individualized Health Plan (IHP) and physician orders
- Communicate with school staff, transportation personnel, and caregivers as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation and incident reporting
- Ensure all safety procedures and protocols are followed during transportation
Nurses should be comfortable and experienced with a variety of medical needs, including but not limited to:
- Tracheostomy care and suctioning
- Seizure monitoring and precautions
- Diabetes management (blood glucose monitoring and insulin administration)
- G-tube / feeding tube support
- Medication administration
- Toileting, including diaper changes, if needed.
- Emergency response and basic life support
- Active RN or LPN license in the state of Alabama
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Experience working with pediatric or medically fragile populations preferred
- Strong communication and observational skills
- Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations
- Morning and afternoon routes (school days)
