Supervisor, Nursing - RCF Nursing Administration - Full Time


Position Summary: Under Administrative direction, will supervise and coordinate activities of Nursing personnel on their respective tour of duty, and to maintain continuity of Nursing care. Also, assists Nurse Managers in the development and evaluation of their respective Nursing personnel. Responsible for operation of Hospital when Hospital Administration is not present. Understands and adheres to GCMC's Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and GCMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they are changed or modified. Education, License & Cert: Current NYS Licensed RN, BSN strongly preferred. Current NYS license registered professional nurse Current BLS‐CPR required, ACLS preferred Experience: At least 5 years acute care clinical nursing experience and at least 2 years charge nurse or supervisory experience. Essential Functions: 1. Directs and supervises nursing and hospital staff on respective shifts. • Makes frequent rounds on shift at least every two hours. • Assists nursing staff with patient care procedures and use of equipment. • Addresses nursing staff issues and concerns in a timely manner. • Addresses nursing staff conduct per policy. 2. Bed Management /Patient Placement‐Acts as central control for patient flow. • Acts as lead person for daily bed meeting‐attends regularly and coordinates the activities of meeting. Keeping members on task. • Facilitates communication and collaboration between the Emergency Department and inpatient units to move patients throughout the hospital in an efficient manner. • Serves as a liaison between Registration/Admitting office staff and nursing units in regards to direct admits. • Answers all calls and requests within 3‐5 minutes. 3. Other Nursing and GCMC activities and responsibilities • Review patient transfers to other facilities and signs off on patient transfer forms. • Serves as clinical resource for Infection Control and prevention in the absence of the Infection Control Preventionist. • During downtime assists the nursing staff with admissions by assisting with transport or completing the admission assessment. • Participates in one hospital committee or team and attends 85% of meetings. • Collaborates with staffing coordinator to make cost effective decisions related to staffing for patient census and activity. • Retrieves medications needed per hospital policy within acceptable time frames. • Field patient and/or family complaints and forwards information to appropriate nurse or department manager and risk manager. As well as investigates any issues as needed. • Reports only pertinent information and issues to Administrator on Call per policy. • Maintains open and ongoing communication with nurse managers and other nursing supervisors. • Responds to all emergency codes in a timely manner and communicates nursing information to the appropriate parties. • Keeps abreast of all activities on shift and coordinates as necessary. • Elicits appropriate patient history and performs physical exams as indicated. Below Responsibilities are Applicable to NP/House Coverage Only • Writes selected orders as approved by Medical Staff Departments. • Completes pertinent patient data in the medical record. • Competently performs procedures for which privileges have been granted. The pay range for this position is $39.25-60.16.
