Registered Nurse, Short Stay Cardiac Procedural Unit

City/State Norfolk, VA Overview Work Shift First (Days) (United States of America) Sentara Heart Hospital located at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Cardiac Procedural Recovery Short Stay Unit! Sentara Norfolk General and the Heart Hospital offers Transplant Services: Heart, Kidney, and Pancreas. We are a Certified Stroke Center and the only Level 3 Epilepsy Center in the area. The Sentara Heart Hospital, a 112-bed care facility, is #2 for Cardiology services and Heart Surgery in the State of Virginia and ranks #24 in the nation for best heart programs. Department/Position Overview: Our Short Stay Unit runs between 6-8 beds and is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. We admit and prepare patients for their Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery, and ICDs/Pacemakers etc. The cardiac short stay unit will provide patient care until the patient is discharged or admitted for further observation. The ideal candidate will have cardiac experience and be comfortable reading telemetry independently. Nurse to patient ratio is 3/1 during the week, and 4/1 on the weekends. We have cardiac techs that assist our unit. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. Experience/Education/Licensure/Certifications: Diploma RN, associate degree RN, bachelor's degree RN, or master's degree RN. All Direct Care RNs are required to have BLS within 90 days of hire and ACLS within 1 year of hire date. RN License Virginia or Compact/Multi-State Eligible. RN should have 1year of nursing experience and cardiac knowledge. We admit and recover patients mostly during the day and are hiring nurses to open our unit for overnight stays. * The unit prepares and recovers patients for procedures in the Cath lab, EP lab, and Minor Procedure Room as well as the Cardiac OR for surgery. * The average patient volume each day for this unit is approximately 60-70 patients. * The types of procedures that we prepare and recover patients for include but is not limited to: Cardiac Catheterization (interventional and diagnostic), Electrophysiology procedures such as cardiac ablations, Cardioversions, surgery and ICDs/Pacemakers etc. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. New Hire Education Requirement: All new RNs who do not have their BSN will be required to sign a BSN Agreement committing to enrollment in an accredited RN to BSN program within 24 months of hire and successfully obtaining their BSN within 5 years of hire. Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
