Job Summary and Qualifications

As an RN Trauma Program Coordinator, you will partner with hospital and departmental leaders to ensure every trauma patient receives safe, timely, high-quality care. You’ll help guide the Trauma Program’s operations and outcomes—aligning clinical practice, data, and processes with local, state, and national standards for Trauma Center designation. Serving as the operational lead for program initiatives, you will support verification readiness, strengthen system performance, and help advance the trauma services that allow us to improve more lives in more ways. 

The Registered Nurse Trauma Coordinator responsibilities will include conducting Performance Improvement activities, trauma patient chart review, and participating in nursing education. Educational/training presentations for nursing staff related to trauma care, and representing the Trauma Program on various community outreach events.

The Trauma Nurse Coordinator provides oversight of the Trauma Registry in partnership with the Clinical Data Registry Abstraction Operations staff and ensures that the Trauma Registry supports the Trauma PI Plan. The position requires the ability to abstract information from identified trauma patient medical records as needed.

The Trauma Nurse Coordinator collaborates with trauma program medical director, physicians and other health care professionals to provide clinical and system oversight for the care of trauma patients, ensuring the provision of efficient, quality, cost-effective care.

In this position you will:

· Support and adhere to hospital policies, procedures, philosophy and mission.

· Interpret and implement policies and procedures; make recommendations for revisions; assist with updating policies and procedures

· Analyze and interpret complicated information.

· Determines a course of action based on research, data, standards of care and general guidelines/protocols.

· Develop policies and procedures based on current literature, input from clinicians and other sources such as information from patient care evaluations.

· Participate in the development and planning of goals and objectives related to trauma care

· Coordinate with the trauma medical director, trauma surgical service medical director, hospital administration and clinicians to assess the need for policies and procedures.

· Implement program initiatives.

· Monitor and maintain compliance with statewide trauma system regulatory requirements.

· Assess and improve departmental performance.

· Maintains quality control programs and participates in the organization's overall quality control program.

· Monitor performance of hospital staff involved with the care of trauma patients.

· Monitor trauma patient outcomes; evaluate for trends.

· Ensures the maintenance of the trauma registry in collaboration with the trauma registrar coordinator

· Coordinate and schedule the Trauma Operations multidisciplinary review meetings

· Conducts Trauma Department meetings in partnership with the Trauma Medical Director

· Ensures completion of Performance Improvement activities.

· Facilitates involvement of staff in Performance Improvement activities.

· Maintains Texas Department of Health (TDH) Designation Standards for a Level IV Trauma Facility.

· Interprets hospital and personnel policies to physicians, nursing staff, patients, visitors and other healthcare providers.

· Provides oversight of the Trauma Registry in partnership with the CDRA staff.

· Participation in Disaster Management drills and preparation as assigned.

· Coordinates inter and intra departmental activities of the unit

· Attend CATRAC meetings.

· Ensures compliance with nursing standards of care.

· Ensures interdisciplinary collaboration in care of patients throughout continuum of care.

· Participates in the development of trauma care systems at the Community, State, or National level.

· Communicates effectively with a wide variety of intra- and inter-facility staff and administration using both oral and written communication

Requirements

    • Three years’ clinical experience in Trauma Nursing/Emergency Nursing- required
    • Documented experience demonstrating leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills -preferred
    • Experience in Quality/Performance Improvement - preferred

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree -required

    Licenses and Certifications

    · Registered Nurse license by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. If compact license is held, RN is required to obtain a Texas RN license within 90 days of their hire date.

    · Current certification as a TNCC Provider, ACLS, PALS

    · Obtain Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC), AIS 2015 and FEMA Courses certification within 6-12months of start date.
