* Job Type: Support Staff - Non-Union * Regular/Temporary: Regular * End Date if Temporary: 06/30/2025 * Hours Per Week: 35 * Salary Range: $49,100 to $76,900 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary The Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging Laboratory (UEIL) at Columbia University Department of Biomedical Engineering works on developing novel, ultrasound-based techniques for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. We believe that non-invasive imaging techniques can diagnose cardiovascular diseases more accurately and reliably than existing diagnostic methods. In order to evaluate our technologies, we are conducting multiple clinical trials at New York Presbyterian Hospital in the City of New York. We are seeking a ( grant funded) skilled cardiac sonographer who will work with our team of researchers to acquire high-quality transthoracic cardiac and vascular images in human and large animal subjects. The ideal candidate will possess excellent scanning abilities, strong anatomical knowledge, as well as exemplary bedside manner. Organization, time management, and the ability to prioritize the collection of sonographic data for a variety of research projects is required, as well as strong interpersonal skills to recruit and consent research subjects. This position is on-site Monday-Friday and does not require weekends, holidays, or calls. Responsibilities * 30% Perform standard-of-care 2D and 3D sonography on human subjects, specifically cardiac and carotid imaging * 30% Perform 2D and 3D sonography on large animals (canine/swine) specifically cardiac and carotid imaging * 10% Brief patients on research study and obtain informed consent * 10% Maintain study participant records, demographics, and patient logs * 10% Work with the electronic medical records for correlation of clinical data * 5% Attend research meetings and trainings as required * 5% Performs other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as required Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree required and Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical ultrasound program in sonography preferred. A Minimum of two (2) years of experience related to clinical ultrasound experience. * Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from ARDMS or a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from CCI preferred * The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, and positively contribute to the lab's aims and objectives. * Excellent bedside manner, interest in veterinary sonography and ultrasound research, knowledge of ultrasound equipment and computer, ability to prioritize, work independently and under direct supervision from senior lab personnel, ability to move a wheeled ultrasound cart. * Preference will be given to individuals with experience in performing veterinary sonography; interest in clinical and/or ultrasound research preferred; Ability and willingness to update and maintain research protocols for human and animal research and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (IRB and IACUC); Spanish-speaking.
