Clinical Outcomes Specialist - Nursing P8 Rehab / Neuro


The Clinical Outcomes Specialist on the Nursing P8 Rehab / Neuro unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas serves as a clinical expert in nursing to improve the quality of care. Impacts patient care and clinical operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in nursing quality or clinical nurse leadership. The shift will be Monday - Friday day shifts, with rotating holidays required. The Rehab/Neuro unit is a 32-bed unit and the unit cares for neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and in-patient rehab patients. The patient population is mostly adults ages 18 and older. Our unit focuses on acute care patients and Neuro Progressive Care patients who require more hands on monitoring the first 24 hours post-surgery. Quality and patient outcomes are at the heart of our practice, and the team actively participates in Evidence Based Practice, unit and hospital-based committees, and local and national conferences. The acute care rehabilitation service helps to safely transition patients to a community setting. Rehabilitation services include bowel and bladder retraining, dysphagia management, tracheostomy and ostomy management, wound care and medication management. Nursing division surgical units provide care for patients that require complex postoperative nursing care, including pain management, frequent monitoring, management of complex wounds and cardiac monitoring. Complex surgical procedures, common to MD Anderson, include hemipelvectomies, hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPECs) and microvascular reconstructive surgeries. Services across this cohort provide specialized care that would otherwise be provided in an intensive care setting. Leads and collaborates with the inter-professional team in planning delivery and evaluation of patient-focused care. Coordinates and integrates care with the inter-professional team for a cohort of patients from admission through discharge. Analyzes patient data and outcomes. EDUCATION: Required: Bachelor's degree in Nursing and Master's degree in a healthcare field. Preferred: Master's degree in Nursing with a quality concentration. EXPERIENCE: Required: Five years clinical nursing experience to include three years of oncology nursing experience. With preferred degree, three years of oncology nursing. Preferred: Experience in nursing quality or clinical nurse leadership. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: All of the Following are Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN), Certification in quality or specialty focused area, and Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
