The primary purpose of the Clinical Nurse, Outpatient position is to provide and coordinate clinical and/or research aspects of patient care across the continuum with the multidisciplinary team and external sponsors in order to achieve quality patient and clinical trial outcomes. MD Anderson Cancer Center has a Clinical Nurse, Outpatient opportunity in the Lymphoma/Myeloma Center. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of nursing experience in an ambulatory and or oncology setting. Prefer candidates with experience using EPIC. Shift: 8 hour shift; 7am-3:30pm, 8am-4:30pm or 9am-5:30pm based on the business needs Key Functions 1. Clinical a. Utilize the nursing process and nursing standards to prevent or manage actual/potential patient problems in the ambulatory setting. b. Manage clinic duties in collaboration with medical staff to facilitate and optimize the care of the patient. c. Participate in nursing and medical research components and requirements for protocol management. d. Incorporate knowledge of research components and requirements for protocol management. e. Utilized knowledge of specific cancers and cancer risks, chemotherapy regimens and the treatment options to provide information that assists the patient/family in making informed decisions. 2. Administrative a. Use organization skills to assure continuity of care in collaboration with other disciplines through appropriate planning, education, and coordination of services. b. Act on behalf of patients and family to ensure care that is safe and appropriate with consideration for values, diversity and human rights. 3. Financial a. Serve as protocol manager assuming responsibility for the financial parameters of the protocol, as well as coordination, evaluation and monitoring of patients participating in clinical trials. b. Serve as a liaison and contact person between patients, external sponsors and clinical trial investigators. 4. Oral & Written Communication a. Identify patient/ family learning needs and ensure they are met. b. Perform on-site and on-call duties as required utilizing various means of communication while acting as primary contact for the ambulatory care needs of the patient and other internal and external customers. 5. Other Duties as assigned. Education Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing. Preferred: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Experience Required: None. Preferred: Two years ambulatory nursing clinical experience or two years oncology and/or research experience. Licensure/Certification Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in the following department: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200) Preferred: Certification in oncology or specialty practice area. Other Required: All clinical nurses with less than one year registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
