Job Description: For the complete job description and to apply, please go to our website: https://www.rsd17.org/district/employment-opportunities Position Summary The LPN works under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse and assists with providing services to schools that work toward the good health and wellness of students and improving health conditions in general. Essential Functions The job description is illustrative and not a complete itemization of all duties and responsibilities of the position. * Act as a member of the district nursing team and contribute to the direct implementation of nursing care plans and therapeutic/education programs * Conduct initial intakes and screenings of children * Contribute to nursing assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of care * Administer First Aid as needed * Respond to emergencies to ensure appropriate immediate medical attention and related follow-up action. * Administer medication to students * Maintain accurate and timely record-keeping and filing * Participate in meetings, when asked by the registered nurse or building administrator, which may include team meetings, Planning and Placement Team meetings, 504 meetings, parent conferences, and faculty meetings * Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of all medical equipment * Keep abreast of current knowledge regarding the area of expertise associated with RSD 17 students by attending in-service activities/programs and conferences and through independent readings * Assist with mandated screenings (e.g. vision, hearing, scoliosis, etc). * Ensure student compliance with all state-mandated immunization/health assessment requirements * Consult with students and families on health conditions and lifestyle issues (e.g. hygiene, nutrition, etc) as needed for the purpose of facilitating a healthier student population * Implement individual student health care and emergency care plans under the supervision of an RN * Communicate with parents/guardians for the purpose of informing them of changes in student health and/or recommending further intervention * Support training on a variety of health-related subjects (e.g. child abuse, health education, medication management procedures, food allergies, OSHA compliance, epi-pens, AED, etc.) for the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle and/or acting as a resource to students, teachers, and other school personnel * Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and proper government authority * Maintain inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies * Maintain the strictest confidence concerning personnel, students, and operational concerns of the district * Comply with the professional, ethical, and legal codes of conduct, standards, and practices for Nurses as outlined by the Connecticut Department of Health and the Connecticut State Department of Education * Perform other duties as assigned by the registered nurse, nursing supervisor, Director of Student Services, and/or building principal Education and Experience * Practical Nursing Diploma (or similar) * 3-5 years related experience preferred * Prior experience in a pediatric and/or emergency setting and/or school, is preferred Licenses and Certificates * Active LPN License issued by the Connecticut Department of Health * Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED * Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or RSD17 Board of Education may find appropriate Background Check * CT Department of Children and Families background check. * State and national criminal history record check. Documents necessary to complete the checks must be submitted within 10 days of hire. Work Year * This is a 10-month position. LPNs work the student school year. Exempt/ Non-Exempt * This position is non-exempt. LPNs may join the Nursing Association.

$40.12/hour
