The role of an Interventional Radiology Nurse is unique and essential to the care of the patient and smooth operation of the Interventional environment. He/She demonstrates that unique and essential function through the framework of C.A.R.E values-compassion, accountability, respect and excellence-with patients, their family members, referring clinicians and the clinical and clerical teams. This role supports, Interventional Radiology, Pain Management, Vascular Surgery and Cardiology in Pre/Post and Intra-procedure. Responsibilities The Journeys and Adventures that Await ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Attending/assisting in patient consultations under the guidance of the Interventionalist. * Act as the first point of contact for referrals and patients. * Performing pre, intra, and post procedure patient evaluation, assessment and documentation. * Make recommendations to the referring physician, patient, and patient's family under the guidance of the Interventionalist. * Serve as a liaison between the patient, nursing staff, radiology staff, ancillary departments and referring physician. * Perform daily duties and communicate patient progress to the medical staff and the Interventionalist. * Orchestrate patient discharge and pharmacy calls; may assist by calling to set up appointments or arrange hospital tests or admissions. * Completes paperwork including orders: Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, etc. * Uses a team approach to develop and achieve daily, patient-centered individualized care goals. * Escort patients to and from exam rooms and readies them for procedure; takes vital signs, records medical history/symptoms, ensures medical chart/lab test results are available and complete. * Assists Interventional Radiology team with procedures and assists team with cleaning and turnover of the rooms. Stocks procedure and patient examination rooms; cleans and arrange sterilization of instruments for procedures; assists with inventory of medical supplies. * Assist in maintaining crash cart. * Checks and restocks medication as necessary. * Reports all test results to the patient as directed by the Interventional Radiologist. * Performs OSHA controls as required. Assists in tracking controlled substances in the department. * Must be able to get along with others, be a team player, accept constructive criticism from your supervisor and be able to follow work rules. * Serves as a mentor for team members and as a preceptor for new team members. * Identifies opportunities for innovation and quality improvement; participates in innovation projects and the quality improvement process. Qualifications The Experiences You Bring EDUCATION and / or CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: * Licensed to practice nursing in Illinois. Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program. * Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation recognition (healthcare provider level). * ACLS Certified EXPERIENCE: * At least 1 year nursing experience: Interventional Radiology or Interventional Cardiology preferred.
