Nurse Specialist- Angio


VIR department is looking for a Nurse Specialist Angio. Fulltime position 4 days a week 10 hour shifts. The Nurse Angio coordinates and deliver patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and following all established standards of practice within State and Federal guidelines. The VIR Nurse-Specialist will be proficient in patient assessment and be competent in the management of the Vascular Interventional Radiology patients, which included the radiology and cardiac population, before, during and after their procedures. The VIR Nurse-Specialist will also be required to take an "on call schedule during non-operational hours of the lab to provide coverage for emergency cases. When assigned the charge role the VIR Nurse-Specialist will coordinate the operating schedule and supervise unit activities. In addition he/she will provide supervision of non-RN personnel. CORE COMPETENCIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Assess patient's physical and psychosocial condition throughout the continuum of care. Provide care for patient's pre, intra and post procedures for all vascular procedures as well as the radiology and cardiac population. Demonstrates competency in advanced patient assessment skills of all body systems (neurological, cardiac, pulmonary, GI, GU, skin and musculoskeletal). Functions as clinically competent in procedural sedation, administering moderate sedation and understanding the sedation recovery process, reversal agents and airway recovery skills. Develop and communicate patient plan of care reflecting patient issues and proposed interventions to achieve desired patient outcome. Collaborate with patient, family and healthcare team in implementing plan for patient care and daily scheduling and management of cases. Evaluate patient outcomes, effectiveness of plan of care and readiness for discharge and/or continuing care. Revise plan of care as needed and appropriately refer for additional services where indicated. Needs to demonstrate independence, good clinical judgment, and practice with experienced safety skills. Must be able to work closely with Anesthesia in recovering adults post anesthesia administration Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure. Assess the learning needs of the patient and family and provide education as indicated, Participates in UBC and performance improvement and risk management activities Act as preceptor to new staff when requested. Responsible for being "on-call" per department's needs. UNIT SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS: 1) Proficient in the management patients undergoing peripheral vascular and Vascular Interventional Radiology procedures 2) Proficient in the management of elective and emergency procedures in VIR, Cat Scan and Radiology Modalities. 3) 4) Competent in the administration of Moderate sedation, demonstrates and understands the Role of a "Procedural Sedation" Nurse for Invasive Procedures. 5) Competent in utilizing the Hemodynamic System for monitoring and documentation purposes. 6) Competent in the use of the Stamford Hospital's electronic documentation system. 1) Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. 2) Valid license as Registered Nurse in Connecticut. 3) Maintain minimum of 6 contact hours annually. 4) BCLS, ACLS. PALS, required within 6 months of hire. 5) Moderate Sedation 6) 2-3 year critical care experience preferred. This includes ER experience.
