Applications Accepted from:  ALL PERSONS INTERESTED Division:  Public Health Branch Section:  Health Center Operations Location:  Various  Locations Workdays & Hours: M-F, 8 a .m.- 5 p.m.  Nights/Weekends As Needed* * Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Houston's Health Department is seeking a professional individual to perform the following Chief Nurse, RN duties: * Coordinate, implement, evaluate, and direct the clinical operations of a Public Health Clinic.   * Provides monthly reports for utilizations, pharmacy inventory, vaccine management, ie. * Collaborate with clinic administration, Nursing Services, other department programs and bureaus, to ensure optimal services are delivered. * Collaborates with the Pharmacy unit and Laboratory Unit to ensure maintenance of pharmacy related documents (logs, reports, and licenses etc.) and lab-related documents (logs, reports, and licenses etc.) are properly filed and/or posted. * Performs Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement, and analytical assessments to cultivate an environment of accountability, productivity, and high performance. * Coordinates with Director of Nursing to develop and implement clinical and administrative policies and procedures. * Supervise and manage personnel within the assigned unit; oversee hiring, disciplinary actions, training and development for the units and compliance with policy and administrative processes WORKING CONDITIONS The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.  EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires graduation from an accredited school of nursing. A Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is preferred. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Four (4) years of experience in a clinical nursing setting, as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in a supervisory/team leadership capacity.   A Master of Science degree may be substituted for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.  LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas.  CPR certification is required.  RN License and CPR certification must be maintained and current for continued employment.Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.  * Demonstrated experience working in the quality assurance, nursing education, staff development * Two (2) years of public health experience. * Demonstrated experience working with Electronic Medical Records Systems (EMR) preferably EPIC especially as it relates to charting, releasing orders, etc. * Working knowledge of quality management and quality improvement methodologies * Working knowledge of preparedness and emergency response * Excellent written, oral, presentation, group facilitation, and interpersonal skills * Ability to handle and prioritize multiple, diverse assignments * Demonstrated experience working with professional and clinical staff * Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and other basic email and web software SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED None. SALARY INFORMATION  GRANT FUND POSITION Grants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds.
