Discover all the possibilities of a career at Northside today. The physician referral nurse is a vital resource for the community and physicians. Nurses act as the healthcare connection or navigator that connects the community to the needed resources offered by Northside Hospital and community partners. The Physician Referral Nurses have ongoing training to remain up to date on a variety of clinical issues. * Maintains a knowledge base necessary to serve internal and external customers seeking information on a dynamic variety of medical topics and departmental processes/procedures: Including but not limited to: Oncology, Heart and Vascular, Women's Services, A Woman's Place, MothersFirst, Lactation, Employee/Infection Help Line, Physician Referral and Community Programs/Events. * Assists customers across the continuum of care by providing relevant and up-to-date information regarding resources/medical programs on each campus and surrounding community resources. * Utilizes critical thinking to assess caller's health-related history and patient/caller needs to ascertain the services desired. * Assists callers in finding a physician to meet their healthcare needs. * Assists expectant parents register for classes and tours that meet their educational needs. * Seeks to improve the discharged patient's experience through follow-up calls in which they serve as conduit for resources, including patient-to-physician follow up as needed. * Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with key internal and external customers: physicians, nurses, community support teams, patient relations, etc. * Helps identify gaps in system and community resources, working to identify potential solutions. * Documents encounters, as directed, according to standard operating procedures and policies. * Participates in the development of assessment tools, scripts, guidelines, pathways and algorithms for customers' health care journey and resources. * Assists with the maintenance of current and accurate physician referral database. * Coordinates and implements multiple responsibilities, projects and priorities. Works independently with minimum direction. Completes work in a timely and efficient manner and ensures work is accurate. * Maintains a working knowledge of utilized software programs and demonstrates computer proficiency. * Maintains the skills of telephone etiquette, such as strong interpersonal skills, calm temperament, clarity and precision in speech, ability to listen and have exceptional telephone mannerisms with good voice modulations and tone. Provides high quality customer service, both internally and externally. * Demonstrate composure under stress, handles self in a professional manner at all times and takes personal responsibility keeping personal and organizational commitments. Responds appropriately to changing circumstances and priorities in a focused manner. REQUIRED: 1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and 4 years of clinical experience 2. OR Associate Degree in Nursing with 10 years of nursing experience 3. Excellent communication and listening skills. 4. Demonstrated assertiveness, coupled with tact and diplomacy. 5. Ability to relate well with hospital managers, physicians, and office staff. 6. Technical skill in PC based computer systems. PREFERRED: 1. Knowledge of Northside Hospital's medical staff and management team.

$35.39/hour
