Job Description: Anticipated Special Education Registered NurseApply Online Category: Student Support Services/School Nurse Date Posted: 5/15/2024 Location: Region One School District Date of Availability: 08/27/2024 Date Closing: When Filled Description: Seeking special education 1:1 Registered Nurse for medically complex student. Responsibilities include providing nursing care in the school setting and during school-sponsored activities. Qualifications: * Current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut. * Current Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as a school nurse preferred. * CPR, AED, and First Aid certification by a recognized provider required, renewable annually. * A minimum of 2 years' experience in school nursing, pediatric private duty, public health, or emergency room nursing is preferred. * Experience with medically fragile or special needs students preferred, including experience with cerebral palsy, g-tubes, and seizure and/or respiratory disorders. Performance Responsibilities: Provides personal care, assistance, and supervision as needed to student, including: * Toileting, including brief changes * Grooming, hygiene, dressing/undressing * Maintaining proper nutrition and hydration through g-tube feedings * Daily PH Reading / Reporting * Daily pulse-ox Reading / Reporting * Wheelchair transfers and positioning * Use of adaptive equipment as per physician order and under the direction of physical therapist such as, but not limited to, standers, wheelchairs, walkers, adaptive chairs, etc. * Provides nursing services during the school day. * Ensures safety and provides emergency medical care as needed based of student presentation and nursing assessment * Attends team meetings as part of a multi-disciplinary team Working Conditions: * During the school year (end of August - mid-June), this position will follow the school calendar for a total of 180 days (Monday - Friday), 6.5 hours per day (7:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.). * In the summer, over the period of 6 weeks in our summer program, the position will be Monday - Thursday, 5 hours per day (9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.).
