Registered Nurse - Ostomy/Wound Care


The registered professional nurse is delegated the authority to provide professional nursing care as defined by the New York State Nurse Practice Act.# The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurse (WOCN) is responsible for assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating skin, wound, ostomy and continence care within the established standards and practices of Crouse Hospital and the guidelines of the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Association.# Under the direction of the Manager, Advanced Practice Nursing, the WOCN serves as the clinical resource and consultant for the acute and rehabilitative care of patients with selected disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems, such as complex draining wounds, ostomies, fistulae, dermal ulcers, tubes and incontinence.# The WOCN provides the full scope of WOCN practice which also includes components of clinical consultant, educational and staff development, leadership and professional responsibilities. BSN required; MS preferred. Two to four years of relevant and recent nursing experience preferred. CPR certification required. Current New York State licensure as a registered professional nurse required. Current Board Certification of WOC(ET) Nurse (CWOCN) by the Wound, Ostomy Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNB) is preferred. #A Registered Professional Nurse with a BS or BSN who has been accepted into a WOCN accredited education program will be given consideration for the position. The candidate must finish the WOCN program within one year of application and obtain WOCN certification within six (6) months of successful completion of the educational program.
