The American Nurses Association's Nursing's Social Policy Statement: The Essence of the Profession (ANA, 2010, p. 3) provides the definition of nursing as: "Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations." The scope of practice of the registered nurse and the corresponding standards and competencies are dependent on the nurse's education, experience, role and population served (ANA, Scope of Practice & Standards, 2010, p. 2). The practice of professional nursing at Northside Hospital includes the domains of Professional Nursing Practice and Professional Nursing Performance. Practice components within the Professional Nursing Practice domain include assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation and coordination of care, and evaluation; and those within the Professional Nursing Performance are ethics, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, communication, leadership, collaboration, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health (ANA, 2010). Additionally, core tenets of nursing practice at Northside also include technology and computer information systems performance. The Staff Registered Professional Nurse II (Staff RN II) is licensed to practice professional nursing in the state of Georgia, in good standing and without limitations; and has a minimum of 12 months of full-time experience as a registered professional nurse, but less than 24 months of post-internship experience (for nurses being promoted from a Staff RN I position). A Staff Registered Professional Nurse II demonstrates the integration of bio-psychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice in providing care to a patients and families with basic and/or complex needs. The Northside Hospital Staff Registered Professional Nurse manages patient care of an assigned group of patients in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the nursing division, including the Nursing Collaborative Care Model. Additionally, the practice of all professional nurses at Northside Hospital reflects the values of collaboration, communication, coordination, integration, and empowerment. Northside Hospital Staff Registered Nurse positions are based on a sequential progression from a novice nurse to an expert. The job descriptions for Staff Nurse I to VI therefore imply that a nurse who is employed at a specific level possess the knowledge, skills and critical thinking capabilities of all prior (lower) levels. As an example, the job description for Staff Registered Nurse II includes all provisions of Staff RN I, in addition to the specific requirements of the Staff Registered Nurse II position. REQUIRED: 1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification for specific specialty area(s); Examples: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification, Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, etc. See specific unit for requirement. 3. 12 months of full-time experience as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) but less than 24 months of post-internship experience for nurses being promoted from a Staff RN I position. EXPERIENCE: In addition to the primary duties, the following is required: 12 months of full-time experience as a registered professional nurse but less than 24 months of post-internship experience for nurses being promoted from a Staff RN I position.
