Advanced Practice Provider - Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery


SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (TCVS) Department is to promote and maintain the health of the client across the health care continuum. This includes the performance of complex tasks on a routine basis which may involve direct and indirect clinical care, research assistance, operative, administrative, and academic responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of APP experience, but open to New Graduates. Surgical Oncology experience is preferred. The position requires coverage at the Sugarland Clinic on Wednesdays and the Main Campus on Thursdays. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Medical/Clinical Knowledge * Mid-Level Providers demonstrate knowledge that includes an understanding of pathophysiology, patient presentation, differential diagnosis, patient management, surgical principles, health promotion, and disease prevention. * Mid-Level Providers demonstrate core knowledge about established and evolving biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to patient care in their area. * Mid-Level Providers demonstrate an investigatory and analytic thinking approach to clinical situations. This includes management of general medical and surgical conditions to include understanding, indication, contraindication, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities. Patient Care * Mid-Level Providers provide patient care appropriate to the population(s) served. * Mid-Level Providers demonstrate care that is effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of wellness. * Mid-Level Providers counsel and educate patients and their families about disease and illness in addition to providing health care services and education aimed at preventing health problems or maintaining health. EDUCATION Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Preferred: At least 1 year of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role. Prior experience in Oncology setting. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION Required: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
