POSITION SUMMARY: The registered nurse first assistant is a Registered nurse with technical skills to assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures.## Working under the direction of a physician, the RNFA may provide direct care to patients using the nursing process preoperatively, intraoperatively and postoperatively. Other nursing duties as assigned.# Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental and divisional nursing philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives.# Works with other healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.# Complies with regulatory agency guidelines.# # EDUCATION/TRAINING: Graduate from an approved school of nursing program. BSN preferred.# Successful completion of a program in Surgical First Assisting. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current Illinois RN license. Certified in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR) within 3 years. BLS and ACLS, certification required.# CRNFA or must obtain within 5 years of hire.
